Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar, Day 24: Santa Darth Maul

As everyone already knows before even opening the door, today's treasure is Darth Santa.

What twisted Lego employee came up with this pairing? I mean, really. Darth Maul and Santa Claus? It is pretty funny, though. He comes with a scooper so that he can clean up Snowman R2-D2's pellets, and a cape and hood to keep him warm.

My favorite detail, however, is the candy cane tucked into his pants:

Sweet!

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar, Day 23: Snowman R2-D2

"Look!"

"Up in the sky!"

"It's a bird!"

"It's a transport!"

It's...

R2-D2 as a snowman!

Yes, everyone's favorite droid has been Frosty-ified. He's kind of cute as a snowman, no? He comes with a couple pieces which are meant to act as a stand, I suppose, though he doesn't really need them. The hat is a nice touch.

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar, Day 22: Sith Infiltrator

Darth Maul's spacecraft, named the Scimitar, is a Sith Infiltrator. Interesting facts about the Sith Infiltrator:
  • has space for six passengers
  • contains a cloaking device which can render it invisible
  • contains six laser cannons
  • was designed by Raith Seinar, of Sienar Design Systems*, who would later create TIE fighters (note the similarity in wing shape)
Here's my favorite detail from Star Wars: Complete Cross-Sections:

It reads, "Storage for poisons, deadly weapons, blades, and other devices of evil intent." I'm guessing that's the description that comes in the owner's manual, too. :o)

*The book Star Wars: Complete Cross-Sections uses both the spelling "Seinar" and "Sienar".

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar, Day 21: Super Battle Droid

The B2 Super Battle Droid was developed after the Battle of Naboo, when people realized that the regular battle droids were pathetic. Besides being bigger, tougher, and having laser cannons built directly into their arms, the Super Battle Droids were not dependent upon a command ship for orders. This meant that if the command ship accidentally got blown up by a kid flying a Naboo starfighter, the Super Battle Droids would continue to fight, rather than just freezing in place.

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar, Day 20: Belbullab-22 Starfighter

If you don't remembers seeing this in the film, don't worry, you're not the only one. Today we get General Grievous' Belbullab-22 starfighter, names Soulless One. Aside from the fact that I had no clue what it was when I put it together, I do think this is one hot little ship.

Update: Day 19: Separatist Shuttle

Day 19 is more likely the Separatist shuttle, also known as a Nemoidian shuttle, or Sheathipede-class transport shuttle.

This really makes more sense, as the shape of yesterday's build follows more closely the lines of the Separatist shuttle, not the AAT.

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar, Day 19: Trade Federation AAT

The Armored Assault Tank (AAT), or Battle Tank, employs five laser guns and six "energy shell" launchers. Our little model appears to only have one laser gun, but I guess that's better than none, right?

An interesting tidbit from my book, Star Wars: Complete Cross-Sections:

The AAT's energy shells cannot be replenished by the droid crew onboard. Instead, the shells are reloaded when the tank returns to a landing ship or battleship, where mechanical facilities take the entire inside of the "foot" off the tank from below. A loaded replacement is then installed in its place.

Who knew?

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar, Day 18: Rebel Trooper

Today is pretty straightforward: it's a Rebel trooper! These guys fight for the Rebel Alliance. The helmet is long because it is meant to protect the neck.

Alas, there are no weapons for this Rebel trooper.

Lego Rebel trooper:

He's apparently happy about something. I'm not sure what that could be, since he doesn't even have a blaster.

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar, Day 16: J-type 327 Nubian Royal Starship

Also known as the Naboo Royal Starship.

This is the ship that Anakin and Padme rode in Episode II, when they traveled to Naboo so Anakin could keep her safe from any further assassination attempts.

In the movie, this ship is super shiny. Now try saying that five times fast: ”This ship is super shiny.” :o)

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar, Day 15: Snowtrooper

Here's to Hoth! Continuing in the Hoth theme, today we get a Snowtrooper. Now these guys are really going to have to fight over the weapons.

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar, Day 14: Weapons Depot

And now, some weapons for our minifigs! Bricklink calls today's build "General Grievous Weapons Depot," but I don't really see what General Grievous has to do with anything. Then again, Bricklink also displays the build differently than Lego shows on the calendar. So.

The weapons depot:

Maybe it's supposed to resemble this (kind of):

The depot contains two blasters and a lightsaber. The longer of the two blasters is a blaster rifle:

The shorter blaster is the E-11 blaster rifle, used primarily by Stormtroopers:

We'll let the Imperial officer and the Rebel trooper fight it out to decide who gets what.

And then there's this lonely little lightsaber. Whom do we know who could use such a weapon?

Maybe Santa could use a double-bladed lightsaber...
