Up as an adverb

Today I saw a bumper sticker that said "Cowgirl up!" and I thought how strange it is that we use the word up as an adverb, or sometimes as part of a verb. I wonder if there's any significance to that.

blow up
clean up
cough up
cozy up
do up
draw up
dress up
eat up
fed up
'fess up
fix up
get up
give up
hush up
inch up
jack up
look up
mess up
muck up
open up
pony up
run up
set up
shake up
shut up
sit up
slip up
snuggle up
stand up
tear up
throw up
touch up
wake up

There are probably a million more examples, but those are the first ones that came to mind.

I've noticed that when I tilt my head back and look up at the sky and try to walk in a straight line I can't do it. I just fall over.

You are so much fun! I love that you are such a thinker! I read your blog and it makes me feel like mine is lame sometimes! I write really lame-o stuff when you are sharing really interesting tid-bits of life that some people (ie: ME) overlook on a regular basis! :) Thanks for being so amazing! THanks for my butterfly box and poem! I absolutely LOVE them!

bake up . . . some cookies to . . .
break up . . . with Chris, who . . .
busts up . . . every time I ask him to . . .
buckle up . . . for the ride or when I . . .
bring up . . . the fact that he . . .
bottles up . . . his emotions, and all this sad saga ends up doing is keeping . . .
Betty up.

You're reading Kira-Kira? Do you like it? Or can you say on your blog?

Oh, I can say. So far I like it. But I'm not that far in. I'll tell you later.

Elegyrl, your blog is not anywhere near lame! You have a million little insights too that are unique to you. And you are quite welcome--I'm glad you like them!

Yes, I like to bake up cookies, dream up things to buy, buy up all the 1 cent rulers at Office Depot, save up for my next purchase and tie up all my loose ends!
And I liked Kira, Kira. It is just a "moment in time" book with not much substance. But it has an interesting perspective.
